Right of Withdrawal for Digital Downloads

Last updated: 25 July 2026

This page explains how the right of withdrawal works for digital downloads from The Netherlands Beneath Your Feet, such as paid PDF routes, route guides and other downloadable files.

1. Cooling-off period for online purchases

If you buy something online as a consumer, you generally have a statutory cooling-off period of 14 days. During that period, you can usually cancel the purchase without giving a reason. This is also known as withdrawal or cancellation.

2. Digital content works differently

For digital content that you can download or access online, such as a PDF route, a special rule applies. The cooling-off period may end once digital delivery begins, but only if this was clearly explained before the purchase and you expressly agreed to it.

This means that if, when purchasing, you consent to receiving immediate access to the download and acknowledge that you will thereby lose your right of withdrawal once delivery begins, you can no longer withdraw from the purchase after the download has been made available or delivery has started.

3. When can you still withdraw?

In principle, you can still withdraw from the purchase as long as digital delivery has not yet begun and you have not yet been given access to the download. This may apply, for example, if a download link has not yet been made available or if something clearly goes wrong before the digital content is delivered.

4. When does the right of withdrawal end?

The right of withdrawal for a digital download ends when all of the following conditions are met:

  • before purchase, you were clearly informed that the right of withdrawal may end when immediate digital delivery begins;
  • you expressly agreed to immediate delivery of the digital content;
  • you acknowledged that you lose your right of withdrawal once delivery begins;
  • the digital download was then made available to you.

5. Why does this exception exist?

Digital downloads cannot be returned after delivery in the same way as a physical product. A PDF route can be saved, copied or used after downloading. For that reason, with immediate digital delivery it may be agreed that the cooling-off period ends once delivery begins, provided this has been clearly stated and confirmed in advance.

6. Problems with a download

Please contact us at info@nederlandonderjevoeten.nl. State the name of the download, the purchase date and a short description of the problem. We will work with you to find an appropriate solution.

Please include as clearly as possible:

  • which route or download you purchased;
  • the purchase date;
  • the email address used for the purchase;
  • what exactly is going wrong.

If a technical problem has occurred, we will look for a reasonable solution, for example by making the download available again or checking access through the payment or download platform.

7. Withdrawing before delivery

Would you like to withdraw from a purchase before digital delivery has begun? Send a clear statement to info@nederlandonderjevoeten.nl. You may use the text below, but this is not required.

Withdrawal example

I hereby inform you that I wish to withdraw from my purchase of the digital download. The purchase concerns: [name of route/download]. The purchase was made on: [date]. My name is: [name]. The email address used is: [email address].

8. Refunds after a valid withdrawal

If you validly withdraw before digital delivery has begun, the amount paid will be refunded using the same or a comparable payment method, unless otherwise agreed. If payment is processed through an external platform, the handling of the refund may also depend on that platform's procedures.
