Privacy Policy

Last updated: 25 July 2026

The Netherlands Beneath Your Feet handles personal data with care. This Privacy Policy explains which data may be processed through the website and in connection with digital purchases, why this happens, who the data may be shared with, how long it is retained and what rights you have.

1. Who is responsible?

The Netherlands Beneath Your Feet is responsible for processing personal data through www.nederlandonderjevoeten.nl. For privacy questions or to exercise your privacy rights, you can email info@nederlandonderjevoeten.nl.

2. Who does this policy apply to?

This Privacy Policy applies to visitors to the website, people who contact us by email and customers who purchase a digital route or another download through an external sales or payment platform. External websites and services are governed by their own privacy policies.

3. What data may be processed?

Depending on how you use the website, the following data may be processed:

  • Contact details: your name, email address and the content of your message when you contact us.
  • Purchase and delivery data: data required for ordering, payment, delivery, administration and support relating to digital downloads.
  • Technical data: for example your IP address, browser type, device type, URL visited, date and time of a request, and technical error or security data.
  • Local preferences: for example your language choice or the choice not to show a welcome pop-up automatically again.

The Netherlands Beneath Your Feet does not receive or store full payment card details itself. These are processed by the payment provider you use during checkout.

Data required to process an order, handle a payment or deliver a digital download must be provided when you use those services. Without this necessary data, an order may not be completed, paid for or delivered. You provide other data voluntarily unless clearly stated otherwise.

4. Purposes and legal bases

Contact and support

Data from emails is used to answer questions, investigate errors and provide support. The legal basis is generally our legitimate interest in communicating carefully or, where your question relates to a purchase, the performance of the contract.

Digital purchases and downloads

Data relating to orders is processed to handle payments, deliver digital products, provide support and maintain records. The legal bases are the performance of the contract and legal obligations, including tax and administrative obligations.

Technical operation and security

Technical data may be processed to operate the website, map, scripts and downloads, resolve faults, prevent misuse and secure the website. This is based on our legitimate interest in maintaining a secure and properly functioning website.

Consent

Where consent is required for a future feature, we will ask for it in advance. You may withdraw consent at any time. Withdrawal of consent does not have retrospective effect.

5. Cookies and local storage

The Netherlands Beneath Your Feet currently does not use advertising cookies or create advertising profiles. The website may use necessary or functional storage in your browser, for example to remember your language preference or record that a welcome pop-up should not be shown automatically again.

Data stored solely in your browser can be removed through your browser settings. If non-essential analytics, marketing cookies or similar technologies are added later, this policy will be updated and prior consent will be requested where required.

6. Hosting, map and external services

The website is hosted and distributed through a hosting and content delivery platform. Map software and external map tiles are loaded for the interactive map. When you open the website or map, these technical service providers may process data such as your IP address, browser information and the time of a request in order to deliver content to your device and prevent misuse.

For digital purchases, The Netherlands Beneath Your Feet may use Payhip and the payment methods and payment providers offered through that platform. These parties process the data required to process payments, deliver digital products, prevent fraud and issue any refunds. Their own privacy policies apply to that processing.

7. Who may receive your data?

The Netherlands Beneath Your Feet does not sell personal data. Data may only be shared where necessary for the purposes described, for example with:

  • hosting, security and technical service providers;
  • mapping and infrastructure services;
  • sales, download and payment providers;
  • administrative or professional service providers where necessary;
  • public authorities where required by law.

Service providers may process personal data only for the agreed services or on the basis of their own legal responsibility.

8. Processing outside the European Economic Area

Some technical, hosting, mapping, sales or payment services may be established outside the European Economic Area or may process personal data there. In that case, data is transferred only where there is a valid legal basis, such as an adequacy decision by the European Commission or appropriate safeguards such as approved standard contractual clauses. You can request more information about the transfer mechanism used and a copy of the applicable safeguards via info@nederlandonderjevoeten.nl.

9. How long is data retained?

The Netherlands Beneath Your Feet retains data no longer than is reasonably necessary:

  • Emails and contact enquiries: generally for no longer than two years after the enquiry has been resolved, unless longer retention is needed for an ongoing matter, contract or legal dispute.
  • Purchase and administrative data: for as long as necessary for delivery, support and applicable statutory administrative and retention obligations.
  • Technical logs: according to the limited retention periods used by the relevant hosting, security and infrastructure providers.
  • Local browser preferences: until you remove them, the storage expires or the website replaces the preference.

When data is no longer needed, it is deleted or anonymised unless a legal obligation or legitimate legal need requires it to be retained for longer.

10. Security

The Netherlands Beneath Your Feet takes appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data against loss, unauthorised access, misuse and unwanted alteration. The amount of personal data processed directly is kept to a minimum. However, no website or internet connection can guarantee complete security.

11. Your privacy rights

Subject to the conditions set out in applicable law, you may request:

  • access to the personal data processed about you;
  • correction of inaccurate or incomplete data;
  • deletion of data;
  • restriction of processing;
  • receipt or transfer of your data in a usable format;
  • objection to processing based on a legitimate interest;
  • withdrawal of previously given consent.

Send your request to info@nederlandonderjevoeten.nl. To prevent misuse, we may ask for additional information that reasonably enables us to establish that the request comes from you. We will respond without undue delay and in any event within one month of receiving your request. If the request is complex or there are many requests, this period may be extended by up to two months. You will then be informed of the extension and the reason for it within one month of receipt of your request.

12. Automated decision-making and profiling

The Netherlands Beneath Your Feet does not use personal data for decision-making based solely on automated processing, including profiling, that produces legal effects concerning you or otherwise significantly affects you.

13. Making a complaint

If you have a complaint about the processing of your personal data, please contact us first at info@nederlandonderjevoeten.nl. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority or another competent European data protection authority.

14. Links to external websites

The website may contain links to external websites, heritage databases, map services, museums, sales platforms and other sources. The Netherlands Beneath Your Feet is not responsible for the privacy practices of these external parties. When using such a service, read the privacy policy of the relevant provider.

15. Changes to this Privacy Policy
